Artist's Comments

I have struggled with this image, how I treat it and if I should even upload it, its not staged, this is my son at the war memorial in Liverpool. He asked what it was about, so I tried to explain about war, how men die to keep what we have, each time I answered his question his response was why? I eventually ran out of reasons, at the end of the day I have to question if there are any real reasons as to why we should decide to kill each other at a political whim. When I could not answer any more I said it was time to go, I turned to walk away and realised he was not with me, when I turned I saw him doing this, he was reading the dedications. I took the photograph and walked back to him, I asked if he was OK, he simply said it was a shame.

I had never felt so guilty in my life.

I decided to upload this after much soul searching, this is for the likes of my friend :iconmad1dave: who was a serving soldier who under the orders of our government went to war, it also for all those that went but never came home. From the mouth of an eight year old boy.

"Its a shame"

as they say "out of the mouths of babes". AND as adults we're supposed to know right fro wrong & do all we can to promote good. With each conflict we promote we condemn the children. It is a shame

You captured the right atmosphere together with your comment.

This means a lot to me, personally. To those who died in the war and those who miss them. Peace.

And what a masterpiece.

I wish that I could walk right up to you.
Each time I try, the same old hesitation!

Sometimes it takes the innocence of a child to tell us what we should already know...

This is beautiful.
